sewing Manifesto
Hi, I’m Stacey Reason.
I bring a lifetime of craft and curiosity to the sewing machine.
I've been sewing off and on since I was 16, but really remember my first project hand-sewing a quilt block in 2nd grade. From there I went on to my first garment project, which was a patchwork skirt made from deconstructed men's corduroy pants I sourced from thrift shops. The sourcing of used materials to upcycle into a self-drafted garment somehow just made sense to me.
My sewing really took off in 2019 when I went through a homestead phase of sewing allllll the baby and quilt things. That’s when I learned everything about patterns, custom adjustments, and the line between following the rules and having fun.
Fast forward to 2021 when I started attending a weekly Zoom sewing call with some random strangers from the internet that led to organizing private sewing retreats which led to organizing the Munich Sewing Retreat which led to offering sewing classes for kids which led to adult sewing classes which led to private sewing lessons which led to birthday parties which led to custom garments and so many other activities that are all part of my sewing revolution.
I realized a few things along the way…
sewing is a powerful skill
sewing is self-expression
sewing is fiber arts
sewing is design
sewing is of environmental concern
sewing is recycling
sewing is comfort
sewing is nervous system regulation
sewing is traditionally women’s work but is way more than that
sewing is positive body image
sewing is inclusive
sewing is cross-generational
sewing is fun
sewing is frustrating
sewing is healing
sewing is everywhere
sewing is for everyone
sewing is revolutionary
sewing is my mission.
